West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu's recent assertion in the Assembly that there are merely 781 vacant teacher positions across primary, upper primary, secondary, and higher secondary levels is facing scrutiny and skepticism.
Basu specified that there are 13 vacancies in Higher Secondary, 28 in Secondary, 473 in Upper Primary, and 267 in Primary, all of which will be filled in compliance with court instructions. However, questions have been raised concerning this claim, especially following the Calcutta High Court's recent directive to complete recruitment for 29 thousand posts in the state, which remains pending.
Despite the minister's assurance of only 781 vacancies, ongoing court cases and CBI investigations into teacher appointments have added to the skepticism surrounding the actual number of vacant positions.
