In a dramatic turn in the Noida dowry death case, police shot and injured Vipin Bhati, the prime accused in the killing of his wife Nikki. Vipin was being taken to the crime scene on Saturday when he allegedly tried to snatch a cop’s pistol and escape. Police opened fire near Sirsa Chauraha, and a bullet struck his leg before he was re-arrested.
According to officials, the accused was being taken to recover bottles of inflammable liquid allegedly used to set Nikki on fire. During the search, he tried to flee despite repeated warnings, forcing police to open fire. He was later admitted to a hospital for treatment. Greater Noida police confirmed that bottles of thinner used in the crime were recovered.
After his arrest, Vipin claimed he had “no remorse” and denied killing his wife, saying she “died on her own.” However, chilling videos circulated earlier showed Nikki being beaten, dragged by her hair, and limping after being set ablaze. Nikki’s six-year-old son also recounted how his mother was doused with liquid and set on fire.
Nikki’s father welcomed the police action, saying only a guilty man tries to run. He alleged that his daughter was repeatedly tortured for dowry despite fulfilling demands, including a Scorpio and a Bullet bike. He urged strict punishment for all accused and demanded that action be taken against the rest of the family involved.
