Parade begins at Red Road to celebrate India's 76th Republic Day
A high-speed car accident on Kolkata’s EM Bypass injured two occupants, including the driver, on Saturday morning. The vehicle, traveling from Ultadanga, lost control near Gate No. 5 of Yuva Bharati Stadium. It first collided with a roadside post and then struck a divider before overturning. Both occupants were rescued from the damaged car and taken for medical treatment.
Police investigations revealed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Witnesses stated that the car was moving at a dangerously high speed, significantly exceeding the prescribed limit. The impact of the collisions left the vehicle severely damaged. Authorities are collecting statements and examining CCTV footage from the area to determine the exact sequence of events.
This incident is part of a pattern of road accidents caused by speeding in Kolkata. Between November 2024 and January 2025, many such fatalities were reported, in similar cases. Speed-monitoring systems are in place across the city, yet such incidents continue to occur, leading to increased scrutiny of traffic violations and enforcement measures.
