Mumbai Police arrested a 62-year-old drunk Swedish national for allegedly harassing a 24-year-old cabin crew on board an Indigo Airlines flight from Bangkok to Mumbai. The passenger, identified as Klas Erik Harald Jonas Westberg, also allegedly assaulted a fellow passenger and caused a disturbance in the air on 6E-1052 Indigo Flight.
What led to the chaos?
The passenger reportedly became unruly when the flight attendant informed him that there was no food on board. The defendant agreed to take the chicken dish, and when the flight attendant approached him with the cash register to make payment, he inappropriately held her hand under the pretense of inserting a card. When the flight attendant protested, Westberg stood up. and harassed Indigo staff in front of other passengers, the woman told Mumbai police.
The flight attendant accused the man of later abusing staff and other passengers.
The accused was arrested on arrival at the Mumbai airport on Thursday. He was produced before the Andheri Metropolitan Court and granted bail.
Eighth unruly pilot arrested
This was the eighth unruly arrest of an airman in India in the past three months and the fifth incident of harassment on board recorded between 2017 and 2023. On Sunday, a drunken man vomited in the aisle and defecated around the toilet on an IndiGo Guwahati-Delhi flight. The incident was flagged on Twitter by Bhaskar Dev Konwar, whose bio identifies him as "senior lawyer practicing at the Gauhati High Court", who himself drew flak for hailing the shocking incident as an example of "girl power".
A crew member is seen wearing a face mask cleaning the vomit-covered aisle (which was covered with paper towels) with disinfectant spray. The image also shows the other passengers passively sitting and staring at her while she performs the unpleasant task.
