Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
Three people were seriously injured after a speeding car bearing a government sticker allegedly ran them over in separate incidents across Patuli on Monday evening. Police arrested two youths — identified as Swapnoneel Ghosh and Nilabja Ghosh — before they could flee. Multiple cases have been registered against them, including charges of attempt to culpable homicide by causing injury with a vehicle.
According to police sources, Swapnoneel was driving the car in an allegedly intoxicated state, with Nilabja seated beside him. The duo reportedly drove at high speed from Narendrapur along the Bypass and entered the Patuli Police Station area. Near the Baghajatin rail gate, the car first struck a motorcyclist, flinging him onto the road and causing serious injuries.
Instead of stopping, the driver allegedly attempted to escape. In the Ghoshpara area, the vehicle hit a pedestrian as locals tried to intercept it. A short distance away, the car rammed into a scooter rider, who was critically injured and admitted to a local hospital. The sequence of collisions triggered panic in the area, prompting residents to alert the police.
Acting swiftly, Patuli Police tracked and intercepted the vehicle on a stretch of the Bypass, arresting both accused on the spot. During interrogation, the duo reportedly claimed to be managers in a reputed company. Authorities are also probing how the vehicle carried a government sticker and whether it was genuine. The accused are expected to be produced in court on Tuesday as the investigation continues.
