Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
In a gut-wrenching collision in Howrah district, a 38-year-old woman lost her life on the spot when a speeding dumper truck rammed into the family motorcycle she was riding with her husband and young daughter along the bustling NH Kolkata-Chennai National Highway. The tragedy unfolded around early morning today at Panpur More in Uluberia, where the family—residents of Liluah but originally from Sankrail in Jhargram—were en route for a simple trip home. Eyewitnesses described a scene of sheer pandemonium: the dumper, enrouted towards Kolaghat, struck the bike from behind with devastating force, hurling all three to the road as its massive wheel mercilessly rolled over Sima Dutta's head, ending her life in an instant of unimaginable horror.
Her husband, Madhab Dutta, and their daughter escaped with their lives, both sustaining severe injuries and admitted in hospital. The highway comes to a temporary halt, sirens wailing as Uluberia police cordoned off the area with lightning efficiency. Rescuers pulled the injured from the wreckage and rushed them to the nearby Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay Government Medical College & Hospital, where doctors battled to stabilize the father and child amid the chaos. The dumper has been detained by Bengal Police but the driver fled and remains at large, with a manhunt underway to haul him before justice. Locals are urging for stricter checks to shield the vulnerable from freight monsters like that dumper. As Madhab and his daughter fight for recovery in the hospital beds, Sima's absence looms large—a stark reminder that behind every statistic is a story of shattered dreams, urging authorities to turn grief into guards against tomorrow's tragedies.
