Earthquake measuring 5.6 magnitude jolts Nepal; tremors felt in Delhi-NCR

In a seismic event that sent shockwaves through Nepal and the National Capital Region (NCR) of Delhi, an earthquake measuring 5.6 magnitude struck on November 6, 2023, at 16:16:40 IST. The National Centre for Seismology reported the quake's epicenter located 233 kilometers north of Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh, India, with coordinates Lat: 28.89 and Long: 82.36. The quake, with a depth of 10 kilometers, triggered panic among residents, causing furniture to shake vigorously in parts of Delhi-NCR.

This event follows a recent 6.4 magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal, resulting in 153 fatalities and 160 injuries, marking one of the deadliest earthquakes in the region since 2015.Nepal has revised its death toll from the previous earthquake to 153, down from the initially reported 157, attributing the discrepancy to duplication of some names.

The majority of the casualties occurred in Jajarkot, the epicenter of the earthquake, with 105 deaths, and 52 deaths in Rukum West district. The District Administration Office in Jajarkot has further revised the death toll to 101, while Rukum West district's toll remains unchanged. Nepal's location in one of the world's most active tectonic zones, characterized as seismic zones IV and V, renders the country highly susceptible to earthquakes.
