Parade begins at Red Road to celebrate India's 76th Republic Day
East-West Metro services will be fully suspended on January 12 and 19 between Salt Lake Sector V and Howrah Maidan due to essential testing of the newly installed Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) system. The service shutdown will affect the Green Line-2 route from Howrah Maidan to Esplanade. Additionally, the Green Line-1 service from Salt Lake Sector V to Sealdah will also remain unavailable on these Sundays as part of the regular weekend service adjustments.
The testing is being conducted to assess the functionality of the CBTC system, which is crucial for ensuring the smooth operation of the East-West Metro's full 16.6 km stretch. The CBTC system is designed to manage train operations efficiently and safely, enabling real-time communication between trains and control centers to prevent collisions and optimize train movements. This testing will include verifying the system’s integration across all stations, tracks, and signaling equipment along the corridor.
As part of the preparation for the full commercial launch of the East-West Metro corridor, the testing will also involve an interlocking process to confirm the coordination between train movements and station operations. The results will determine the readiness of the entire system for daily service. The successful completion of these tests is necessary to ensure that the metro services are safe, reliable, and ready for full-scale commercial operations between Salt Lake Sector V and Howrah Maidan.
