Ritabrata Banerjee faces “Thief, Thief” slogans and abuse during Baruipur victim family visit
Eastern Railway has installed new luggage lockers at Sealdah station to help passengers safely store their bags, especially useful during train delays or long waits. According to media reports, the primary locker facility is located inside the 2nd class non-AC waiting room near Platform No. 14 (Sealdah South side), with additional smart lockers at the entrance of Platform No. 12. These lockers are available in small, medium, and large sizes, allowing passengers to keep their locked luggage securely for a few hours up to a full day. This facility has become a major relief for travellers arriving early or facing delayed trains from Sealdah.
The digital lockers operate through an easy touchscreen system. Passengers enter their mobile number, verify OTP, provide basic details, select the required locker size and duration, and pay instantly via UPI by scanning a QR code. The locker opens automatically after successful payment. Rules are simple — only locked bags are accepted and a ticket may be required at the time of deposit. For those preferring traditional booking, offline per-bag daily charges apply (₹30 for first 24 hours and ₹40 for subsequent days). Charges vary by size and time, making it an affordable and secure option.
For the online option, the prices are as follows: charges for small bags for 3, 6, 9, and 24 hours will be ₹30, ₹60, ₹90, and ₹100 respectively, while medium bags will be charged ₹40, ₹80, ₹120, and ₹150 respectively. For large luggage, the charges will be ₹60, ₹110, ₹160, and ₹220 respectively. This initiative seems to be part ofIndian Railways’ efforts to improve passenger amenities at busy stations like Sealdah. The system supports partial or full retrieval of luggage as needed. With clear pricing and digital ease, passengers will be able to manage their luggage stress-free while waiting for trains, which could further contribute to a smoother journey experience.
