EC demands report from DA on minor’s death in Kaliganj bomb blast after TMC rally

The Election Commission has sought a detailed report from the Nadia district administration after a 10-year-old girl died in a bomb blast during a victory procession of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in Kaliganj. The incident occurred on Monday, shortly after the Kaliganj Assembly by-election results were declared. The Commission has asked how the incident took place, who was responsible, and whether any arrests or detentions have been made so far.

According to local police officials, the explosion took place in Moland area during a post-result rally taken out by TMC workers. A socket bomb was allegedly hurled, and the blast led to the death of Tamanna Khatun, aged 10. The child sustained injuries from shrapnel. District Superintendent of Police reached the spot soon after and confirmed the cause of injury. Forensic experts have begun examining the scene and materials used in the blast.

Police have stated that one person has been arrested in connection with the incident. The arrested individual is being questioned to identify the motive and others potentially involved. Additional police forces have been deployed in sensitive areas of Kaliganj to prevent any further disturbance following the incident.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee posted a statement expressing shock and grief over the girl’s death. She conveyed condolences to the victim’s family and directed the police to take strict legal action. “I am shocked and saddened by the death of the girl in Krishnanagar Police District. My condolences to the family. Police will take strong action, and legal steps will be taken against the miscreants,” she wrote.
