Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
The Election Commission of India is set to take a crucial decision on Thursday regarding re-polling in West Bengal, following 77 complaints of alleged Evm tampering reported during the second phase of Assembly elections. The complaints, largely concentrated in South 24 Parganas district, have triggered heightened political attention, with demands for fresh voting in affected booths.
According to information from election authorities, the complaints are spread across four Assembly constituencies, including Falta, Diamond Harbour, Magrahat (East), and Budge Budge. Among these, Falta accounts for the highest number, followed by Diamond Harbour, with several allegations involving the use of tape, glue, ink, and other substances on Evm buttons. Out of the total complaints, a number of cases have already undergone preliminary verification.
The Commission has sought detailed reports from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, and based on these findings, a final decision on whether re-polling will be conducted is expected later in the day. Officials have indicated that if irregularities are confirmed, re-polling may be ordered in specific booths, with further action possible in cases of serious violations.
The issue has gained significance as no re-poll demands were raised during the first phase of voting, making the concentration of complaints in the second phase notable. Authorities have reiterated that any confirmed instance of tampering or interference with Evm functioning will be treated as a serious electoral offence, with necessary steps taken to ensure the integrity of the voting process.
