The Election Commission is scheduled to publish details of electoral bonds, shared by the State Bank of India (SBI), on its official website by 5 pm on March 15. This move follows the compliance of directives from the Supreme Court to the SBI, mandating the disclosure of electoral bond data. As per the poll panel's statement, the SBI has supplied the electoral bonds data in adherence to the court's orders, dating back to February 15 and March 11, 2024.
Since the inception of the electoral bond scheme in 2018, the State Bank of India has issued bonds worth ₹16,518 crore across 30 tranches. The publication of this data by the Election Commission holds significance as it precedes the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, providing insight into political funding activities. While the release of electoral bond details will shed light on recipients and amounts, concerns remain regarding the correlation of donor data with political affiliations, highlighting the need for transparency in political funding processes.
