No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar arrived in Kolkata on a multi-day visit to review preparations for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, with the Election Commission of India’s full bench scheduled to hold a series of meetings with political parties and senior administrative officials.
On Monday morning, the Commission’s full bench will meet representatives of recognised political parties to discuss election-related issues and concerns. Delegations from eight recognised parties are expected to interact with the Commission, with each group allotted a brief time slot to present its views.
Later in the day at around 1.15 pm, the Commission will hold a key administrative review meeting to assess poll preparedness across the state. All district magistrates, superintendents of police and police commissioners are scheduled to attend the meeting along with senior officials of the West Bengal government.
The visit comes ahead of the Assembly elections expected within the next two months. The Commission is reviewing logistical, administrative and security arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of the electoral process across the state.
Meanwhile, the electoral rolls published on February 28 include around 7.04 crore voters in West Bengal. About 60 lakh voters whose eligibility remains under judicial adjudication may be included in supplementary rolls once the verification process is completed.
