Enforcement Directorate (ED) has launched raids across Delhi, Chandigarh, and Uttarakhand as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged forest and land scams involving former Uttarakhand minister Harak Singh Rawat. The raids are being carried out in connection with two separate cases, one pertaining to forest land and the other related to a land scam, where Rawat faces accusations. Last year, the Vigilance Department initiated action against Rawat in these cases, marking a significant development in the investigation.
Sources within the Enforcement Directorate confirmed that searches are being conducted at various locations associated with Congress leader and former minister Harak Singh Rawat in Uttarakhand, Delhi, and Chandigarh. Notably, Rawat had switched allegiance from BJP to Congress before the 2022 Uttarakhand Assembly elections. During his tenure as the state forest minister under the BJP government, Rawat and his departmental officers faced serious allegations of involvement in illegal tree cutting and construction activities within the Pakhro range of Corbett National Park under the Tiger Safari Project.
