Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
The Enforcement Directorate has intensified its investigation into the assets and financial dealings of Kolkata Police Deputy Commissioner Shantanu Sinha after issuing a lookout notice against him. According to sources, investigators are collecting details of movable and immovable properties linked to Shantanu Sinha, his wife and their two sons as part of an expanding financial probe.
ED officials are reportedly contacting multiple registrar offices to obtain records of properties registered in the names of the officer and his family members. Investigators are also examining whether any benami or proxy-owned properties exist and whether the declared sources of income match the value of the assets under scrutiny. Land, flats, commercial properties and investment-related documents are reportedly being examined as part of the inquiry.
The lookout notice against Shantanu Sinha was issued a day after the results of the West Bengal Assembly elections were declared. According to the notice, if the officer attempted to leave or evade authorities, he was to be detained immediately and handed over to the Enforcement Directorate. Sources said the investigation has since expanded to include bank accounts, fixed deposits, insurance policies and other financial investments linked to the family.
Shantanu Sinha, who earlier served as the Officer-in-Charge of Kalighat Police Station, came under the ED’s scanner in connection with alleged financial transactions involving businessman “Sona Pappu.” The businessman’s name had surfaced during an unrest-related incident on Kankulia Road in the Golpark area. Earlier, summons had also been issued against Sona Pappu, who has faced allegations related to land grabbing and extortion.
In the same case, the Enforcement Directorate had earlier arrested Behala-based businessman Joy Kamdar. Investigators are now examining the alleged financial links between Sona Pappu and Shantanu Sinha Biswas. Officials stated that the inquiry remains at a preliminary stage and that further action would depend on the examination of financial records and supporting documents collected during the investigation.
