Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials descended upon Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence with a search warrant, following the Delhi High Court's refusal to grant him protection from coercive action in a liquor probe. The court, declining relief, stated it was not inclined to offer protection at this juncture. Reports indicate that ED officials arrived to serve Kejriwal a summons but proceeded with a raid upon his residence. Speculation arose that the chief minister might face interrogation, given his repeated non-compliance with agency summonses over the past year.
During Thursday's court hearing, Kejriwal faced questions from the bench regarding his failure to seek anticipatory bail in anticipation of potential arrest. The court emphasized the necessity of understanding the agency's demands before taking legal action. The ongoing case centers on alleged corruption and money laundering related to the formulation and execution of Delhi's excise policy for 2021-22, subsequently annulled. Notably, AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh are currently in judicial custody in connection with the same case, which implicates Kejriwal multiple times in ED charge sheets.
