Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has launched extensive, simultaneous raids across Kolkata city early on Friday morning, including the office of Fire and Emergency Services minister Sujit Bose.
The central agency, accompanied by central armed police forces, began the synchronized operation at approximately 7 am, targeting around ten different locations linked to prominent political figures and influential businessmen.
A key focus of the day's searches is the ongoing municipal recruitment corruption case. A team of ED simultaneously reached the residence of South Dum Dum Municipality Vice Chairman Nitai Dutta.
In the Nagerbazar area, ED officials and CRPF personnel conducted a raid on Shobhana Apartment on Shyamnagar Road, targeting the residence of Deepak Dey alias Dipu. Dey, who owns the GD Goenka Public School and runs a promoting and builders' business.
The raids were not confined solely to the recruitment scam. Other ED teams are investigating separate matters of financial and banking fraud. Searches are underway at the residence of High Court lawyer Amit Agarwal in New Alipore.
Simultaneously, the house of Chartered Accountant and stockbroker Vishal Patoria in the Girish Park area (8A Sarkar Lane) is also being searched by ED personnel in connection with alleged banking fraud charges.
