The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday raided the residence of Executive Engineer Rural Development (Special Division) Rampukar Ram in Lalpur police station area in connection with a corruption and money laundering case involving Chief Engineer Veerendra Kumar Ram, who is in care.
The raid, which began in the compound located on the Peace Road, continued until the evening. An ED source said that Rampukar is close to Ram and instead of awarding projects, he used to collect money from contractors and send it to senior officials.
ED found evidence of Rampukar destroying mobile phones to remove evidence related to the case.
The ED raided the premises of Ram and others in various states on February 21 and 22 and unearthed assets worth several crores. Arrested Rama on Wednesday, the court later allowed the central agency to remand him for five days to interrogate him.
The detention period is due to end on Tuesday.
