No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) launched a major raid in Rishra, Hooghly, early Wednesday morning as part of an investigation into alleged illegal financial transactions. A team of ED officers arrived at Shyam Pana Kunj, a residence at 17 Lakshmi Palle in Ward No. 22 of Rishra Municipality, around 7 a.m. The house belongs to Kailash Kumar Verma, who is accused of involvement in hundi-related financial dealings, and his two sons also stay at the property.
According to sources, five ED officials supported by six CISF personnel for security entered the residence and began searching various sections of the building. Family members were questioned as officers looked for documents, cash, or digital materials linked to suspected illegal transactions. The search remained underway at the time of reporting.
Local residents said the Verma family has lived in the Lakshmi Palle area for many years and generally keeps a low profile. The sudden raid prompted curiosity and concern among neighbours, drawing crowds outside the house before security officials brought the situation under control.
The operation forms part of a broader probe into suspected hundi activities and possible money laundering. Further details are expected once the search concludes and officials examine any material recovered.
