ED raids two locations in Kolkata over links to Sona Pappu land fraud case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has ramped up its investigation just days before the second phase of the West Bengal assembly elections, conducting simultaneous raids at the residences of two prominent businessmen in Kolkata. On Sunday morning, federal investigators searched a property in Anandpur near the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass and simultaneously targeted another location in Alipore.

According to agency sources, these operations are directly linked to an ongoing financial corruption and land fraud case involving the notorious fugitive, ‘Sona Pappu,’ who has been absconding since being implicated in the Ballygunge riots. The agency’s move comes amid heightened political sensitivity, with the second phase of polling scheduled for April 29 across 142 constituencies.

Investigators reportedly zeroed in on these businessmen following the interrogation of an individual recently arrested in connection with the same financial fraud probe. While the ED continues to scrutinize the financial trail connecting these businessmen to Sona Pappu, the operation has already yielded significant developments; investigators had previously recovered a pistol and cash during an earlier raid at Pappu’s residence.
