The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has intensified its investigation into the School Service Commission (SSC) recruitment scam, issuing fresh summons to former West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee and his close associate Arpita Mukherjee. While both individuals were previously arrested in connection with the primary teacher recruitment corruption case and are currently out on bail, the central agency has reportedly discovered their names surfacing in several new segments of the SSC-specific probe.
According to agency sources, the investigators have scheduled the questioning to take place after the upcoming Holi break and the peak of the election atmosphere. The duo is expected to be called to the ED office between March 16 and 18. This move comes after a detailed analysis of the chargesheet and recent evidence, which suggests their involvement in a wider network of irregularities beyond the initial primary recruitment findings.
The ED plans to question Partha and Arpita separately to cross-verify the information gathered during the ongoing investigation. The agency aims to trace the money trail and identify the beneficiaries of the alleged scam, recalling the high-profile recovery of crores of rupees from Arpita’s flats during the initial stages of the primary recruitment case. The timing of the summons, strategically placed after the spring festivities, indicates a renewed push by the central agency to conclude this high-stakes corruption probe.
