South Bengal gets new rail connectivity: Purulia-Bankura-Howrah MEMU service inaugurated today
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Ambareesh Sarkar, the youth president of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in South Dinajpur, for questioning in connection with a recruitment bribery case. Sarkar, who is also the deputy chairman of the South Dinajpur district council, is accused of accepting money from unemployed candidates promising them jobs in SSC Group C and Group D positions. His summons come amid ongoing protests by thousands of unemployed teachers demanding action against alleged recruitment corruption by the state government.
A formal complaint was registered at the Kushmandi police station accusing Sarkar of taking Rs 10 lakh in exchange for securing a Group D job, which was never provided. Several witnesses have named Sarkar during the investigation, prompting the ED to include him in its probe. Sarkar has denied all allegations, stating, "A faction within the party is trying to trap me."
Sarkar’s appearance is scheduled at the CGO Complex, close to where the unemployed teachers are protesting. The case has intensified scrutiny over recruitment processes in the state, with authorities continuing their investigation into multiple allegations of bribery and corruption related to government job appointments.
