Egg treatment for Swarup Biswas, brother of Ex-Min Aroop Biswas, after arrest

The New Alipore Police arrested Swarup Biswas, the brother of former West Bengal minister Aroop Biswas, late Thursday evening. Swarup Biswas, who also serves as the president of the Tollywood Federation, was considered an absolute heavyweight in the Bengali film industry until the recent change of guard in the state government. Despite numerous long-standing allegations against him, this marks the first major legal action taken by law enforcement, triggering significant public interest and immediate unrest in the area.

As news of his detention spread, a large crowd of local residents gathered outside the New Alipore Police Station to voice their anger. Biswas faces a series of serious charges under multiple sections of the law, including extortion, molestation, attempt to murder, and violations under the Arms Act. Victims and locals used the opportunity to openly complain about his high-handedness, alleging that his close associates routinely demanded "cut-money" (extortion) for basic local activities, ranging from operating commercial trucks to constructing a second floor on private residential properties.

The situation turned dramatic when several protestors arrived at the police station carrying eggs. Drawing parallels to a recent incident in Sonarpur where TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee faced a similar public backlash with eggs and stones, the protestors stated they brought "good eggs as a gift for a bad person." When the police finally escorted Biswas out of the station for his mandatory medical examination, the gathered crowd erupted in fury, chanting "Chor, Chor" (thief, thief) slogans against him. Police are currently investigating the multiple complaints filed against him as local tension remains high.
