Elderly man electrocuted while fixing power line in South 24 Pgs; Brother critically injured

Younger brother critically injured while trying to rescue him, admitted to hospital after receiving severe electric shock
Police visited the spot, no confirmation yet on prior complaint made to electricity department before the incident occurred

Elderly man electrocuted while fixing power line in South 24 Pgs; Brother critically injured

One person died and another was critically injured after receiving an electric shock while repairing a faulty power line at home in Mahendranagar village, under Gopalnagar area of Patharpratima, South 24 Parganas. The incident took place on Monday morning when 68-year-old Govardhan Maity attempted to fix the household electricity line.

Local sources said Govardhan received a strong electric shock during the repair. His younger brother, 58-year-old Narayan Maity, rushed to help him and also got electrocuted. Govardhan died on the spot, while Narayan was taken to the hospital in critical condition with the help of local residents.

The incident caused a stir in the area. Police reached the location after being informed. No official confirmation has been given on whether the local electricity office had been contacted regarding the fault before the repair attempt.
