Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
A tragic incident has shaken the Chakchaka area of Cooch Behar North, where elderly resident Subhash Roy passed away after discovering that his and several family members’ names were missing from the supplementary voter list. The incident has stirred controversy, with local Trinamool leaders alleging negligence by the Election Commission and blaming political rivalry for the oversight.
Subhash Roy, known locally as Subhash Babu, had been waiting for the publication of the third supplementary list, hoping that the omissions from the first two lists would be corrected. However, when the list was released on Saturday, it again showed that his name and those of several family members, including his two sons, were missing. The disappointment and anxiety reportedly triggered a severe health episode.
According to family sources, Subhash Roy fell ill late on Saturday night and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to a heart attack. Trinamool candidate Partha Pratim Roy visited the family on Sunday morning, highlighting the alleged administrative oversight as a contributing factor to the tragedy.
The BJP, however, rejected claims linking the death to voter list discrepancies, asserting that Subhash Roy died of natural illness. The incident has intensified political debates in Cooch Behar, highlighting both electoral administrative challenges and the emotional toll on citizens awaiting voter registration corrections.
