Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
The Amherst Street police are investigating the mysterious death of a 62-year-old man, Amitabh De, whose semi-nude body was found in his residence at Chintamani Das Lane. Amitabh, who lived alone in his two-story house, was unmarried and had limited regular contact with outsiders, except for his nephew, Debashish. The matter came to light when Debashish informed the police that he had been unable to reach his uncle since the morning of January 7th.
When repeated phone calls went unanswered, and no one responded at the door, the police were forced to break into the house. Upon entering the drawing room, investigators discovered Amitabh lying on the floor with no clothing on the lower half of his body. He was immediately rushed to the Kolkata Medical College and Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. The condition of the body and the circumstances under which it was found have raised several questions for the authorities.
Preliminary reports suggest that there were no immediate signs of a forced entry or struggle, but the "semi-nude" state of the body has added a layer of suspicion to the case. His nephew told the police that everything seemed normal during their last conversation a few days ago. The police are now looking into his call records and speaking to neighbors to determine if anyone had visited the house between January 7th and the time the body was discovered.
As of now, the police have registered an unnatural death case and sent the remains for a post-mortem examination. Detectives from the Kolkata Police Homicide Department may be brought in if the autopsy report indicates any physical trauma or poisoning. For now, the house has been cordoned off, and forensic experts are expected to visit the site to collect samples that might clarify whether this was a case of sudden medical failure or a planned crime.
