A 70-year-old woman was found seriously injured at her home in the India–Bangladesh border area of Nadia district on Sunday morning, sparking tension and speculation of murder among local residents. The deceased, identified as Kaushalya Biswas, was a resident of Gede Dakshinpara in Krishnaganj.
According to local sources, Kaushalya Biswas had been alone at home on Saturday night while her son Rabindranath Biswas and daughter-in-law attended a local fair in the area. When the family returned the next morning and found no response from inside the house, they went in and discovered her lying on the floor in a blood-soaked condition. The Krishnaganj police station was immediately informed about the incident. Police rushed to the spot and took the injured woman to Krishnaganj Rural Hospital, where doctors declared her dead. The incident quickly created a sensation in the border village, with neighbours suspecting that the elderly woman may have been murdered.
Police have sent the body for postmortem examination and begun an investigation into the incident. Officials said the exact cause of death will be determined after the autopsy report is received, while investigators are also trying to determine the circumstances and possible motive behind the suspected crime.
