Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
On Friday morning, 22 August 2025, the bloodied and bound body of 79-year-old Mrs. Bijaya Das was discovered inside her flat at F-32, New Garia Co-operative Housing Society, Panchasayar, South Kolkata. The victim was found by a domestic worker who entered the house and raised an alarm after noticing her unresponsiveness.
Neighbors gathered at the scene following the worker’s cries and observed that Mrs. Das’s hands and feet were tied, her face partially covered with adhesive tape, and blood had flowed from her head onto a table. The elderly woman lived in the flat with her husband, Prasanta Das, while their son, Bandhan Das, resides outstation with his family.
The Panchasayar police arrived promptly after receiving the information and began a thorough investigation. Officers secured the flat, examined the scene, and called fingerprint experts, photographers, and homicide specialists to preserve all medico-legal evidence. The incident reportedly caused panic among residents in the surrounding area.
Authorities confirmed that Mrs. Das was shifted to NRS Hospital, where she was declared brought dead. A post-mortem examination has been arranged to determine the exact cause of death. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, treating it as a suspected homicide, and are reviewing all evidence collected from the flat.
