The Election Commission has decided to extend the voting hours for the upcoming assembly elections in Rajasthan, scheduled for November 25. According to the Central Election Commission's order issued on Friday, polling in Rajasthan will now take place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
This marks a departure from the previous election cycles in 2018 and 2013 when voting was conducted between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The extended voting time is anticipated to encourage a higher voter turnout, a change that may impact the overall electoral process and results.
The decision to extend the voting hours comes as Rajasthan prepares for elections across 200 assembly seats, with a total of 51,756 polling booths set up for this purpose. Each booth is expected to cater to a maximum of 1,450 voters. This decision to lengthen the voting window is not limited to Rajasthan alone, as the Election Commission has also taken similar measures in Madhya Pradesh. It is anticipated that this move will facilitate greater participation and engagement of voters in the democratic process.
