Election Commission releases new Electoral Bonds data

The Election Commission (EC) has made public new data on electoral bonds, revealing details about their purchase and redemption by political parties. The released data, available on the EC's website, includes information on electoral bonds bought by individuals and cashed in by political entities. This move comes following the EC's receipt of electoral bonds data from the State Bank of India, covering transactions after April 2019. Notably, previous data on electoral bonds purchased was submitted to the Supreme Court in April 2019 in sealed covers, and the newly released data likely pertains to bonds bought before that period.

According to the disclosed data, political parties have complied with the Supreme Court's interim order from April 2019, submitting electoral bond details in sealed covers. In response to the Supreme Court's directive from March 15, 2024, the Court's registry returned physical copies and a digitized record on a pen drive in a sealed cover.
