Disruption in metro services between Dumdum and Dakshineswar; normal services resume after 2 hours
In response to multiple representations and appeals from various quarters, the Election Commission has announced a modification in the counting date for the Mizoram Assembly polls. The initially scheduled date of December 3, 2023 (Sunday) has been revised to December 4, 2023 (Monday), as conveyed by the Election Commission in an official statement.
The decision to change the counting date came after receiving requests citing the special significance of December 3 for the people of Mizoram, given that it falls on a Sunday. The poll panel, taking these representations into serious consideration, decided to accommodate the public sentiments and revise the date.
Originally, the Election Commission had set December 3 as the day for counting votes not only in Mizoram but also in several other states, including Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, and Telangana. However, the observance of church programs on Sunday, along with concerns raised by major political parties, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders, prompted the Election Commission to reschedule the Mizoram counting to December 4.
