No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
Political tension escalated in Burdwan on Tuesday night after a violent clash broke out between workers of the Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party during the ongoing election campaign. The incident occurred in the Police Line area, creating panic among local residents.
According to reports, a Trinamool Congress worker was allegedly dragged off his motorcycle, thrown onto the road and kicked by attackers. The confrontation soon escalated, leading to injuries on both sides as workers from the two parties clashed violently in the area. Police from Burdwan Police Station rushed to the spot after receiving information and managed to bring the situation under control. Injured workers were given necessary medical attention, while the area was closely monitored to prevent further violence.
Both parties have accused each other of instigating the attack. The BJP alleged that its workers were carrying out a door-to-door campaign in the Police Line More area when they were attacked by Trinamool supporters led by Shyamal Rai. The Trinamool Congress, however, denied the allegations and blamed BJP workers for provoking the clash.
