Elephant crushes man to death while returning from a wedding

A tragic incident unfolded in Harli village of Daru police station area in Hazaribagh district, Jharkhand, where a man named Suresh Vishwakarma was crushed to death by a wild elephant. The horrifying event took place early in the morning on May 1, as Suresh was returning home from a wedding procession.

According to local sources, the victim had attended a wedding in the village on April 30 and was returning on foot to his home at Aalod Tand after the celebration. After getting down near Harli school along with others from the wedding group, Suresh chose to walk the remaining distance home. Unfortunately, during this walk, he encountered a lone elephant separated from its herd.

Eyewitnesses and forest officials confirmed that the elephant, appearing agitated, attacked Suresh and crushed him on the spot. Morning walkers in the area were the first to notice the lifeless body and immediately alerted his family members and local authorities.

Upon receiving the information, the Daru police and forest department rushed to the scene. The body was recovered and sent to Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College in Hazaribagh for postmortem. Authorities are now investigating the elephant’s movement and planning measures to prevent further incidents.

The incident has triggered a wave of panic in the entire Harli village and surrounding areas, where people are now fearful of venturing out early in the morning or late at night. Suresh Vishwakarma, who used to reside at his in-laws' house in the village, leaves behind a grieving family, including his wife and four children—three daughters and one son.
