Elephant attacks are becoming a growing concern in the Kilkot tea garden of Jalpaiguri district. In a recent incident, a laborer's house was completely destroyed in an elephant attack late on Saturday night. The entire family narrowly escaped the attack, but the incident has left the local community in a state of panic and anger.
According to sources, a wild elephant emerged from the Chapramari forest on Saturday night and entered the number five line of the Kilkot tea garden. The elephant attacked the house of Phulmuni Majhi, a laborer, in search of food. At the time of the attack, Phulmuni's family was asleep. Fortunately, they managed to escape unharmed, but their house was left in ruins.
Residents of the area have expressed their frustration, stating that the forest department does not conduct night patrols, leading to an increase in elephant activity. On Friday night, similar attacks occurred, with elephants destroying shops and homes. Many houses in the garden have been damaged so far, and the local community is demanding immediate action from the forest department to prevent further attacks.
