An encounter broke out between Maoists and security personnel in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Thursday morning, following an anti-Maoist operation launched by the District Reserve Guard. The exchange of fire began in a forested area in the southern part of the district.
Officials said the DRG team was conducting the operation based on specific inputs about the presence of armed Maoist cadres in the area. As the security forces advanced through the forest, they came under fire, leading to a face-off.
Intermittent firing was continuing at the time of reporting, and additional details regarding casualties or recoveries were awaited. Security forces have strengthened combing operations in the surrounding areas.
