Industrialist Sajjan Jindal, Chairman and Managing Director of the JSW Group, announced a 1600 MW power plant to be set up in Salboni, West Bengal. During his visit, he said, “Salboni has seen tremendous development. I have come to Salboni after 10 years. I am astonished by the development here.” The project is expected to involve the latest ultra-super critical technology sourced from Japan and South Korea.

According to Jindal, the power plant will help meet the electricity demands of 2 crore people. He also stated that the land used for the plant belongs to farmers and emphasized that all project-related work will benefit the families of these farmers. He added, “Everyone will get jobs,” referring to employment opportunities being generated through the project.

Jindal said that JSW Cement has emerged as Bengal's leading cement company and that their operating model in the region follows a family-oriented approach. He called Salboni “a beautiful region” and affirmed that the upcoming plant will be built using high-rating technology. He also announced plans to establish a skill development school in Medinipur to train local youth for industrial employment.

Highlighting his impression of West Bengal’s leadership, Jindal said, “Once in many lifetimes, you come across a leader like Mamata Banerjee—one who embodies compassion, emotion, inspiration, and love.” He also referred to the state as the “capital of eastern India” and noted that major projects are taking place in every part of Bengal under the current government. “Everyone in Bengal is happy,” he remarked.

Sajjan Jindal previously served as chairman of the World Steel Association during 2021–22 and was succeeded by POSCO’s Jeong-Woo Choi. He heads the JSW Group, which has diversified interests in steel, energy, mining, infrastructure, software, and sports. The power project in Salboni adds to the group’s existing industrial footprint in the state.
