In a heated incident at a polling booth in Sitai, Cooch Behar, BJP candidate Deepak Roy alleged tampering with the electronic voting machine (EVM) at the Hokdah Adabari SSK Primary School. According to Roy, two buttons on the EVM were found taped with cello tape, sparking accusations of negligence against the presiding officer and polling staff. Upon discovering the tape, Roy entered the booth, removed the tape himself, and engaged in a tense exchange with the presiding officer over the incident.
This led to a commotion at the booth as allegations escalated. Trinamool Congress (TMC), however, dismissed the claim, arguing that peaceful polling was underway until Roy’s arrival, accusing him of disrupting the process and creating unrest.
Further claims of tampering emerged as Roy alleged another EVM in Sitai had a button covered with glued paper, which added fuel to the ongoing controversy. Both parties have demanded thorough investigation, with the BJP calling for stronger oversight to ensure the integrity of the polling process.
