The second phase of the West Bengal assembly elections faced a tense disruption in the Bally constituency on Wednesday, following a clash triggered by an electronic voting machine (EVM) malfunction. The incident occurred at a polling booth in Sohanlal School, where a technical glitch brought the voting process to a sudden halt, leading to confusion and confrontation among political workers and voters.
The situation escalated rapidly as frustrations grew among those waiting to cast their ballots, necessitating swift intervention from Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel deployed at the site. Security forces worked to restore order and detained two individuals in connection with the skirmish. Officials from the Howrah Police Commissionerate also arrived promptly to manage the crowd and bring the volatile situation under control.
While reports of disturbances were recorded at polling booths numbered 152, 153, and 154, administrative officials have confirmed that the situation is currently under control. A heavy police deployment remains stationed at the constituency to prevent further unrest and to ensure the smooth continuation of the polling process throughout the remainder of the day.
