CM Mamata pushes Aparajita Bill as TMC MPs urge President’s approval
Guru Murthy, 45, a retired Army jawan employed as a security guard at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), has been arrested in Hyderabad for the alleged murder of his wife, Venkata Madhavi, 35. The crime came to light after Madhavi’s parents filed a missing person complaint on January 18. Murthy initially claimed that Madhavi had left their home following an argument, but after further questioning, he reportedly confessed to killing her.
According to his confession, Murthy murdered Madhavi on January 15 during a domestic argument over her desire to visit her native place in Nandyal. After killing her, Murthy allegedly dismembered her body in their bathroom. He then placed the body parts in a pressure cooker, where he boiled them for three days. Murthy reportedly used a pestle to grind the bones to destroy evidence. After cooking the body parts, he packed the remains in a gunny bag and disposed of them in a lake near Jillelaguda, Rangareddy district, about 10 kilometers from their home in Meerpet.
Police have initiated an extensive search in the lake but have not yet recovered any body parts. A team of investigators, along with a dog squad, has been deployed to aid in the search. Murthy’s confession is being verified, and the investigation has shifted from a missing person case to a murder inquiry. Authorities are gathering additional evidence and are exploring the couple’s past disputes as part of the investigation.
Murthy and Madhavi had been married for 13 years and had two children, who were reportedly staying with Murthy’s sister at the time of the crime. Murthy, originally from Prakasam district, had served in the Indian Army before retiring and joining DRDO as a security guard. The investigation is ongoing, and police are focused on verifying all details of the confession while continuing their efforts to recover the victim’s remains.
