Ex-minister Udayan Guha arrested from Phoolbagan in extortion & embezzlement case

Former North Bengal Development Minister and Trinamool Congress leader Udayan Guha was arrested by the Cooch Behar district police on Wednesday. The senior politician was detained from his residence located in the Phulbagan area of Kolkata. Police authorities confirmed that the operation was carried out following deep-rooted investigations into an old case.

According to senior police sources, the former Dinhata MLA is facing serious allegations related to a financial embezzlement scandal. The state law enforcement machinery has charged him with extorting crores of rupees specifically linked to activities surrounding the Dinhata police station jurisdiction. Despite the case being an older legal matter, the recent administrative shifts in West Bengal have led to expedited proceedings.

This high-profile arrest comes amid a widespread crackdown across West Bengal, where several Trinamool Congress councilors and former lawmakers have been brought under the scanner of law enforcement agencies.
