Explosion in abandoned house injures child in South 24 Parganas Basanti area

A powerful explosion rocked the Kharimachan area under Amjhara Panchayat in South 24 Parganas district on Wednesday night. The blast occurred inside an abandoned house where a child happened to be present at the time. The impact of the explosion was so severe that it left the young victim with critical injuries, causing immediate panic and tension among the local residents in the Basanti police station area.

Upon hearing the deafening sound, locals rushed to the spot and found the child bleeding profusely amidst remnants of twine and shrapnel. The victim was immediately rushed to a nearby facility for primary treatment before being shifted to a private hospital in Kolkata, where his condition remains under close medical supervision. Bloodstains and scattered bomb debris were found across the site, highlighting the intensity of the improvised device.

The Basanti police arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the information and recovered fragments of the explosive. While the motive behind storing bombs in an abandoned residential area remains unclear, police have initiated a high-level probe to track down the owners of the property and the source of the explosives. No arrests have been made so far, but the area has been cordoned off for forensic examination.
