At around 10:10 AM on Wednesday, a local train traveling from Santragachi to Panskura stopped near Kulgachia Station due to a mechanical fault. The train remained stationary on the track, leading to a halt in services. Passengers inside the train experienced confusion and anxiety while waiting for the situation to be resolved.
While the local train was halted, the Howrah-Ardra via Bhadrak Express, traveling in the same direction, was approaching the same track from behind. The express train came up to the stopped local train, causing a potential risk of collision. However, the express train’s crew acted quickly and successfully brought the train to a halt before a crash occurred. No passengers were injured in the incident, and the express train did not collide with the local train.
Following the event, railway workers and authorities arrived at the scene, and the situation was resolved within 30 minutes. Services resumed after the tracks were cleared and the local train was safely moved. This incident adds to a series of previous occurrences where halted trains created risks for other trains in the region. Notably, a similar event took place near Bardhaman when a goods train halted, causing a near-miss with the 12337 Howrah-Bolpur Shantiniketan Express, where passengers were evacuated to avoid any danger.
