Fake call center busted in Sector 5, four arrested

Another international fake call center has been uncovered in Kolkata’s Salt Lake Sector 5. In a swift operation, police from the Electronics Complex police station arrested four people, including the managing director, the manager, and two employees. They were accused of defrauding foreign nationals under the guise of providing tech support services.

According to police sources, they had received a tip-off about suspicious activities operating out of an office in Sector 5. An investigation confirmed that a fraudulent call center had been set up to scam foreign nationals by offering fake technical support services, often extracting significant amounts of money from victims.

Acting on the information, police raided the office and arrested four individuals on the spot. The arrested include the MD who masterminded the operation, the manager responsible for day-to-day activities, and two employees who posed as tech support executives.

The accused are expected to be produced before the Bidhannagar Sub-Divisional Court today. Police are planning to seek custody for further interrogation to uncover the wider network linked to the scam and possibly identify more people involved. Officials are also investigating whether similar fake call centers are operating in other parts of the city. Sector 5, known for its dense concentration of legitimate IT offices, has unfortunately seen a spike in such fraudulent activities in recent years.
