A man posing as a CBI officer was arrested on Monday by the Rajarhat police station in Howrah, for allegedly duping a Rajarhat resident of approximately Rs 10.5 lakh. The accused, identified as Shubhjit Barui, was found to be carrying an identity card in the name of Central Intelligence Force Trust.
The police acted on a written complaint filed by Biplab Adhikari, who had stated that he had met Shubhojit Barui at a hotel in Chinar Park back in February, where the latter had introduced himself as a CBI officer. Barui had promised to secure a pub license for Adhikari, and after Adhikari agreed, he took Rs 10.5 lakh from him in instalments. However, Barui did not perform any work despite receiving the payment.
Adhikari eventually lodged a complaint with the Rajarhat police station on March 25, following which the police launched an investigation into the matter. The police managed to track down Barui's location via mobile tower tracking and arrested him from Howrah on Monday.
