Fake central Govt officer dupes domestic worker of ₹8 lakh in job scam, arrested in New Town

A man posing as a central government officer has been arrested in New Town for allegedly defrauding a domestic worker of ₹8 lakh by promising a job. The accused, identified as Saurav Kumar, was caught with a vehicle labeled "Government of India" and multiple forged documents. Police registered a case based on a complaint filed by the victim, Dipali Mondal, a resident of Jatragachhi.

According to the police, Mondal had been working at Saurav Kumar’s flat since 2022. He allegedly promised her that he could secure a bank job for her differently-abled husband, Tarani Mondal, in exchange for money. Believing the offer, she paid ₹8 lakh in multiple installments. When no job materialized and she demanded a refund, Kumar allegedly went to her house, threatened her with dire consequences, and physically assaulted her. Following this, she lodged a written complaint at New Town police station.

Acting on the complaint, police launched an investigation and arrested Kumar from the New Town area. His four-wheeler, which had "Government of India" written on it, was seized along with several forged documents. Authorities have booked him under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including cheating, criminal intimidation, and assault. Police are verifying the authenticity of the seized documents and investigating whether he had duped others in a similar manner.

The accused was produced before Barasat court, and legal proceedings are underway. Officials have urged anyone else who may have been defrauded by Kumar to come forward. Police continue their investigation to determine the extent of the fraud and whether other individuals were involved in the operation.
