Fake currency, 95 stolen phones seized in Murshidabad; 2 arrested

Samsherganj police in Murshidabad district conducted two separate operations on Wednesday, recovering a large quantity of counterfeit Indian currency and stolen mobile phones, and arresting two young men in connection with the cases. The coordinated raids were carried out in the Dhuliyan Ferry Ghat and Hijaltala areas, dealing a blow to suspected illegal circulation and smuggling networks.

In the first operation on Wednesday evening, police raided the Dhuliyan Ferry Ghat area and arrested Anisur Sheikh. During the search, officers recovered 150 counterfeit ₹500 notes from his possession, amounting to ₹75,000. Preliminary investigation suggests the fake currency was intended to be circulated within Murshidabad district.

Later that night, police searched a house in the Hijaltala area and recovered 95 stolen mobile phones, including 24 iPhones, with an estimated market value of around ₹30 lakh. In this case, Mobarak Hossain was arrested. Police said there was a plan to smuggle the recovered mobile phones to Bangladesh, and further investigation is underway.
