In a brazen daylight robbery in Patna, miscreants posing as customs officers allegedly looted around 17 kilograms of gold from a Gujarati businessman near the Khagaul overbridge on Saturday afternoon. According to reports, the accused, dressed in white shirts and khaki trousers, intercepted the victim and forcibly carried out the robbery, raising serious concerns over impersonation-based crimes.
The incident occurred around 1 PM when the victim, identified as Mahesh, was travelling from Danapur towards Bakarganj after arriving from Rajkot by train. As his auto-rickshaw approached the Khagaul overbridge, a Bolero vehicle carrying four men blocked his path. Introducing themselves as customs officials, the accused claimed they needed to inspect the gold consignment he was carrying.
According to reports, during the so-called inspection, the men forcibly snatched the bag containing gold and briefly detained the victim before fleeing the scene in their vehicle. The victim later informed authorities, following which a police team launched an immediate search operation. An abandoned Bolero car linked to the incident was subsequently recovered from the AIIMS–Naubatpur road.
Police officials stated that CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined to identify and trace the accused. The exact quantity and ownership details of the gold are expected to be confirmed once the owner arrives. The incident has prompted heightened vigilance, with authorities focusing on uncovering the network behind the impersonation and robbery.
