Acting on credible source information regarding an illegal lottery operation, the Anti-Rowdy Squad (ARS) conducted a late-night raid at a facility located at 3/1A, Matheswartala Lane in Kolkata. During the operation, which fell under the jurisdiction of the Tangra Police Station, officers caught four individuals red-handed. The suspects were actively engaged in printing, cutting, stapling, and processing various sizes of colored printouts bearing fake names and numbers designed to mimic official state agency lotteries. When questioned, the individuals failed to provide any satisfactory explanation or valid legal documents for their operations.
The setup was cloning prominent lottery names from multiple regions, including DARR Yamuna, DIABAN Morning, Bhutan State Lottery, Cherrapunji, DHANLAXMI, DREAM Supar, GOLDEN Morning, and NGL-BST Boss. The police arrested all four men present at the scene on Sunday, July 5, 2026. The key operator who identified himself as the owner responsible for the ongoing manufacturing unit was 36-year-old Shanawaz Ahmed, alias Shahid, a resident of Amherst Street. The other three arrested accomplices were identified as Md Qayam (56) from Madhyamgram, Rustam Hussain (22) from Titagarh, and Md. Tanveer (27) from Narkeldanga.
Following the arrests, law enforcement personnel seized a massive cache of forged lottery tickets along with specialized machinery, including computers, CPUs, printers, and a paper-cutting machine. The entire printing facility was subsequently sealed by the raiding team. A specific criminal case has been registered under Tangra Police Station to initiate formal prosecution against the gang.
