Amdanga police station has apprehended a man for allegedly posing as a Superintendent of Police (SP) and defrauding individuals with false promises of government jobs. The accused, identified as Susmit Sen, operated under the fake identity of "Ranjay Chatterjee" and claimed to be an SP from Garia's Garfa police station area. Police sources reveal that Sen used a vehicle fitted with a blue beacon, presenting himself as a high-ranking police officer to deceive people and collect lakhs of rupees.
The elaborate scam came to light when a resident from the Amdanga police station area filed a complaint, alleging that an individual claiming to be a police officer had cheated them out of a substantial amount of money in exchange for a job. Acting on the complaint, police launched an investigation, culminating in a raid on the Garfa area late Thursday night, where the accused was arrested.
During the arrest, authorities seized ₹5 lakh in cash, a laptop, three mobile phones, a fake Aadhaar card, voter card, SIM card, counterfeit police identity cards, and the vehicle with the blue beacon. Police are actively working to ascertain the accused's real name and permanent address, expecting further revelations during interrogation. The accused was presented in Barasat court today and has been remanded in police custody for further questioning. Investigators suspect that more individuals may be involved in this organized fraud operation.
