Fake survey team of 9 arrested in Medinipur for collecting Aadhaar and identity documents from residents

Following an announcement by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Chandrakona police in Medinipur district arrested nine individuals, including two women, who were conducting a fake survey in the area. The group was reportedly collecting Aadhaar cards, identity documents, and other confidential papers from residents under the guise of official survey work. The arrests were made after local complaints about suspicious activities.

Police received intelligence from confidential sources and initially apprehended three members of the group. After interrogation, a day-long operation led to the arrest of the remaining six suspects. The police investigation revealed that this group was operating across 11 assembly constituencies in Medinipur, conducting similar fake surveys to collect sensitive personal information from citizens.

All nine accused are scheduled to be presented in court on Wednesday. Authorities continue their inquiry into the matter to fully understand the scope of the operation and ensure no further collection of personal data occurs under false pretenses.
